Achilles (Calcaneal) Tendon

Diagram of posterior muscles.

The Achilles tendon, which is also known as the cancaneal tendon and as the heel cord, is the tendon of the muscles of the calf (lower-leg). It is located above and at the back of both heels.

Tendons in general connect muscle(s) to bone(s).

The Achilles tendon connects the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles to the calcaneus, which is also known as 'the heel bone'.

The Achilles tendon is labelled on our diagram of human posterior muscles.
