Stratum (Skin)

A stratum (pl. strata) is a layer. Therefore in the context of the skin, a stratum is a layer of skin. (The skin is also known as the "integument", or "integumentary system".)

A stratum (of skin) is a layer of tissue or layer/s of cells.

Examples include:

• the stratum corneum,
• the stratum lucidum,
• the stratum granulosum,
• the stratum germinativum,
  (which is also known as the “Malpighian Layer”),
• the stratum spinosum and
• the stratum basale.
